GOSWAMY PALASTRI (ESTD 1910)

Goswamy Palastri treatment proudly announces its completion of more than 100 years since its inception (1910) at Chintaguntapalem, Machilipatnam, Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh (India).

Goswamy Palastri has crossed 100th milestone in its journey of illuminating the lives of hundreds of thousands in its Orthopaedic Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment, and now has all set to shed its luster overseas also.

The legacy of ‘Goswamy’, a name synonymous to SERVICE, began in 1902, when a strolling monk, who used to be called ‘Goswamy’ – a term of endearment by the locals – introduced, rather taught the use of herbal paste for sprains, swellings, and for fractures of bones to a local youth  named, Yarra Koteswara Rao.

The story went on like this: Sri Yarra Koteswara Rao, a young man, got one of his legs fractured/sprained while playing football.  The monk, Goswamy happened to see the young man writhing with severe pain, took pity on him and offered to give him some treatment.  He made some paste with some herbs and applied on the fractured /sprained part of the leg.  It worked like a miracle. He was totally relieved of his pain and completely recovered.  Then his curiosity got the better of him to pay rapturous interest in this kind of medicine/treatment.  So he learnt this medicine/treatment from Goswamy and soon found himself giving the same treatment to his friends who were hurt during the play.  As this treatment – applying the herbal paste on the hurt part of the body – was showing good result, neighbours, both old and young, men and women began to knock at his door to receive his ‘service’.

Is it possible to hide the splendor of a lamp?

The treatment became more and more popular in the town, as the days, months, years went by. As a result, Sri Yarra Koteswara Rao, the young man, who was a handloom weaver by profession, was not able to – rather not allowed to – pursue his age-old family tradition of weaving, as there were always bee-lines of ‘patients’ in front of his house, in the great hope of receiving ‘Palastri’ treatment as people began to call it.

Sri Yarra Koteswara Rao started a medical clinic in 1910 in his native place of Chintaguntapalem, which he affectionately named after his mentor “Goswamy” and the treatment as “Palastri”, in and through which he offered free (Palastri) treatment to those who came to him.  He did yeomen service to the poor, which became so famous that people from various places used to come to Chintaguntapalem.  Thus “Goswamy Palastri” hospital became a beacon of hope for those people who could not afford costly Orthopaedic treatment of Allopathy.  After the demise of Sri Yarra Koteswara Rao, his son Sri Yarra Pani continued the legacy.

As the treatment involved some expenditure like buying cloth and wooden sticks, and as the availability of herbs from which the medicine is extracted became scarce, the patients began to be charged minimum, that is, only for the expenses.  The charges for this treatment are down-to-earth and much cheaper than any kind of medicine.  Yet this is not just for the poor, but for all classes of people.  Even the legendary cine personality Dr. NTR preferred this treatment when he got fractured in his leg.  Sri Yarra Koteswara Rao sent the medicine and supplementaries to Madras through his staff with which NTR recovered quickly.

Sri Yarra Pani’s services in this field are laudable and he proved to be the chip of the old block. He brought glamour and glory to this noble profession.  Sri Pani’s cousin Sri Pinjala Subba Rao, a native of Pedana village, also assisted in this treatment for nearly three and a half decades.  His service is also worth-remembering in this field.

As Sri Yarra Pani became old, his son Sri Yarra Gnana Subrahmanyam, who got a Civil Engineering Diploma, stepped into this ancestral service in the year 1993.  Dr. Yarra Gnana Subrahmanyam, with his innovative bent of mind, has learnt to assimilate modern medical methods and techniques like prescribing oral medicines to subdue pain and X- ray for assessing the exact location of the fracture.  He also takes advice from a number of Orthopaedics and keeps in touch with the latest trends and technological advancements.  This fusion of tradition and modernity has yielded good result.  As many as 200 patients from far and wide come for this treatment every day.

Goswamy Palastri is far from being stagnant, but continues to be innovative and explorative.  Goswamy Muscle Oil is the result and outcome of this continuous ongoing research.  This Muscle Oil is working so fabulously well on patients with chronic muscle pains.

What is Goswamy Palastri Patti?

Goswamy Palastri patti is an amalgamation of various Ayurvedic herbal ingredients and vegetable oils.  This paste is spread in a thin layer on a white cloth, which becomes a gummy plaster.  This plaster is stuck on the painful/injured area of the body, and remains on the place for 15 – 20 days till the pain subsides. The plaster sticks fast and stays fixed on the part of the body even if it gets wet. The fractured bone of the part of the body is applied with this plaster kept immobilized by tying it with bamboo sticks.
